Kim Ford already
owns a few of my painting and this Christmas (2009) her parents
contacted me with a really interesting, challenging project.
Kim had this
amazing photo that she had taken at a Killers gig of lead singer
Brandon Flowers. They wanted me to use this to make a painting,
well i looked at the photo and realized this would be a painting
all about that night, the feel, and the excitement, and hopefully
the painting would capture what Kim and the audience were feeling
on that night.
So i removed
the hands of the crowd, and decided too make this painting all
about the atmosphere not just a painting of Brandon or the Kilers,
but one of the night, with the stage lights glowing these mad
shades of orange, with Brandons silhouette perfectly placed
against the background, the the odd flash of light resembling
the other band members and stage equipment.
The painting
came out better than I had hoped, the feel from the oranges
worked a treat and created the 'heat' of a live show and Brandon
distinctively being Brandon without really seeing his face or
any features, his stage presence being enough to recognize its
him.
It took along
time, and threw up some big challenges and ideas to over come
and work through. The outcome .....hopefully a painting that
shows the excitement of the night..... feeeew im exhausted from
talking about it!
