Pop
art is a style which seeks its inspiration from commercial
art and items of mass culture (such
as films, comic strips or popular foods).
These paintings either define us as a person, or define a place
or feeling.
Music
is a funny thing, it can go as far as defining us as a person,
the way we talk, the way we dress; just look at the impact Cobain
made on the youth of the 90's. Music
is used to define a generation, to define a time, in
a way other art forms do not. It is more accessible
to the public; it's far easier to hear a Beatles song
from the 60's than it is to see a Warhol piece, even through
they both defined a time. Music also falls into very different
categories; some seen as high art, Dylan, Beatles, Buckley etc,
while some is regarded as money making gimmicks and in some
ways cheapens the art of music. In the music paintings I try
to use people who I like, as well as
important people in the eras. |
