Pop art
is a style which seeks its inspiration from
commercial art and items of mass culture (such as films,
comic strips or popular foods). These
paintings either define us as a person, or define a place
or feeling.
Television
by its true nature is a dictator
or reflector of current culture. With these paintings
the subject is picked to define a certain era or
generation, for example
My So Called Life, for my generation was one of the most
important TV programmes, and has proved to be one of the most
influential shows ever made,
with many modern shows inspired by it. For example, Buffy
creator Joss Wheadon said:
"I was trying to create My So Called Life with vampires".
The painting subjects are not picked by random but are carefully
chosen for their importance in the history of TV and the importance
they have played in current culture. |
