THE ART OF STEPHEN

SEMI
ABSRACT

"Abstract art isn't simply a lack of realism. It's rather a heightened depiction of what an object really is." - Curtis Verdum

Abstract is a style of painting in which non-representational lines, colour, shapes and forms replace accurate visual depictions of objects, landscapes and figures. The subject is often stylised, blurred, repeated or broken down into basic forms so that it becomes unrecognisable. Intangible subjects such as thoughts, emotions and time are often expressed in abstract form.

I define semi-abstract as paintings that are too descriptional to be true abstract, and too undefined to be pop art or photo realism. These painting represent a subject in the middle of a journey, on its way to absraction, pop art, or photo realism. These are definitely one of the most interesting to paint as I am always battling between realism and abstraction whilst trying to get a natural balance.
